Yesterday I went to Barnes and Noble where I purchased a book, "Mind of the Elephant" and a cd "Antarctica"- The Never. I had to get them shipped to my house because they didnt have them at the store.

Today I waited for Jeris to pick me up from the mall so I sat at Barnes and Noble for two hours. I ended up buying 53 dollars worth of books.
Now understand that my belief is, money spent on books is money never wasted, but god knows I didn't need any right then. Calvin had just given me a box of books to read.

Some people may have an addiction to alcohol or drugs .
Others to cigarettes.
I like books.
Mmmm books.

I may have a problem.

Pete fuck you.

....but thanks for the fries man.

Tori, Pete, and I went to graces and had some silver tea followed by a trip to park point where we ran around in some bitchin waves. On our way back we went through the drive thru at Mcdonalds where we embarrassed Pete by making farting noises when he got our food. Bringing back the 4th grade immaturity can be funny sometimes.

Yesterday Dana called and asked If I wanted to take a trip to duluth,
We ended up going to perkins and staying there for hours.
We talked about Philosophy, religion, rational debate, politics, everything, nothing, nonsense, people, the future...
we just sat and talked while drinking coffee, and loved every minute of it.
It was the most fun I had in a long time, doing practically nothing.
We also managed to meet up with steve have  a few cynical moments with him while he was on break, and then met a pretty awesome waiter named matt.
I think the coolest part about matt is that he put up with our randomness, and enlightened us no matter how rediciulous the request. This could be because he wanted a good tip, He didn't want to be rude, or he was weirded out and just expected to never talk to us again anyway. Maybe all of the above.
Whatever the reason, it was still fun.

So last month we were told to write a topic on something that embodies the american spirit for Project Democracy. Now personally I think the whole thing in a pretty big joke, but it counted towards our grade in journalism. Needless to say I ended up doing the damn thing druing the hour on the day it was due. That ladies and gentleman Is procrastination at its finest. At any rate I had to figure what or rather who to write this thing on. Not long after putting some though into it I though of the perfect person, Abraham Lincoln. Now as we all know Abe is one kick ass mother fucker, so it wasnt hard for me to pull a few paragraphs out of my ass about why he embodies the american spirit and why he is all around the greatest fucking president ever.

Anyway, we got our papers back today telling us how we did.
Needless to say good ol' Abe got me awarded with the "golden eagle award".
This award is the next step down from "omg we chose you to speak at a banquet and shit." So not only did Abe win me this award, he also made sure I didnt get fucked over. Be honest, who would really want to read their project democracy paper in front of a shit ton of people who take the whole thing a bit too seriously? Not I.

Our society is dumb and it's my fault, but it is also society's for allowing us to lower our standards.

I was talking to our foregin exchange student, Adrian. He told me that our classes here are a hell of a lot easier than the ones in Germany. The thing is, in Germany students dont make the requirements, they have to meet them.

Every day I hear kids blaming our educators for their lack of intelligence or lack of education. But have we ever thought of what the teachers get out of it? So they push you to do well in school, then what? They get a pat on the back and a gold star?
Lets face it, our society keeps on lowering the standards of education. Think about it. How many kids do you have in your graduation class? How many of those kids are on the honor roll (either A or B)?
Im willing to wager that about half of your class is. Why is this? Because mommy and daddy want lower car insurance for their kids and the teachers are willing to say oh alright have and A or B and call it good because that is what society allows. Society is like water, it rises and lowers to the mediocrity. As long as we decide to take no benefit from what we learn every day , our education will continue to go down hill, and its one hell of a slippery slope.  What about cheating? Is it uncommon these days? Hell no. Infact, I believe it is strongly accepted these days because Society only cares about one thing: the end point. As long as you have that good mark at the end, you're set. You get the scholarships and you get the free ride to school and a pat on the back regardless of how you got the mark.
Look at the underclassmen in your school and think about how pathetic your future is. But hey, realize that before you were and upperclassmen there where people like your teachers who were looking down on you saying the same damn thing. Im sure that those same people you are looking  and shaking your heads at will be doing it to the others below them. Scary thought, huh? If this pattern continues, those younger kids, those pathetic excuses for educated individuals, with be the smart ones someday.
Like Mr. Nellis said, Wow are we in trouble.

The truth is, even though a lot of people are well aware of all of this, they have no intent to change.
Even if there is an educational itch they will not make the effort to lift their arm and scratch it.

Guess what...its not just me.
You're responsible for this dumb society as well.
How does that make you feel?

Nellis: I think it's about time I retire....or at least throw a granade in this pile of shit (refering to class of eighth graders in the room outside of his office.)
Me: Haha I agree. You might find that your enthusiasm to retire is some what comparable to my enthusiasm to graduate.
Nellis: I bet. Just look what our future is. (points to class) Wow are we in trouble.
Me: Maybe we might suggest they play in traffic? They listen to pretty much any other dumb suggestion they are told.
Nellis: Why the hell not? Its worth a try at least. (laughs and exits room)
Me: laughs

And That Is What I love about having this guy as my teacher.
